London, Sep. 08 – Coalition troops killed one “militant” while detaining four “military-aged males” that may be connected to a “high-priority insurgent” once affiliated with the Mahdi Army during a pre-dawn raid in Baghdad on Friday, the U.S. military announced.
“The detained suspects are also believed to have distributed throughout Baghdad deadly Explosively Formed Projectiles (EFPs) smuggled from Iran to be used against Coalition forces”, said a statement by the Multi-National Force – Iraq (MNF-I).
“Outside influence is hindering the prospects of peace and stability in Iraq”, said Lt. Col. Chris Garver, an MNF-I spokesman. We will go after anyone connected to any effort to bring EFPs and other lethal aid into Iraq”.
A search of two structures revealed signs of weapons smuggling activity, the MNF-I said, adding that Coalition forces confiscated night vision sights for RPG systems, fake identification cards and numerous suspicious documents.
