Iran Focus: London, Feb. 03 – A new resolution by the United Nations Security Council on Iran will send serious signals to Tehran that it must freeze its uranium enrichment activities as has been demanded of it by the UN’s nuclear watchdog, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak said on Sunday.

London, Feb. 03 – A new resolution by the United Nations Security Council on Iran will send serious signals to Tehran that it must freeze its uranium enrichment activities as has been demanded of it by the UN’s nuclear watchdog, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak said on Sunday.
“When this document is made public, you will see that it contains serious signals for Iran and envisions a certain expansion of the earlier sanctions”, Kislyak said in an interview with the Russian news agency Interfax.
Kislyak urged Tehran to freeze uranium enrichment and implement the Additional Protocol to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s control agreement which allows for snap inspections.
“Iran should fully cooperate with the IAEA’s Board of Governors, and, among other things, get back to the implementation of the additional protocol on control, freeze uranium enrichment and take some other measures pending the work to untangle all difficult problems”, he said.
“All this is quite feasible, if relevant political decisions are made”, he added.
In Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said on Sunday that there was no consensus among members of the Security Council’s 5 Permanent Members and Germany (P5+1) on issuing a third sanctions resolution against Iran.
The 15-nation Security Council has imposed two sets of sanctions on Tehran for its refusal to halt its uranium enrichment activities which the West suspects is part of a nuclear weapons program.
On January 22, the P5+1 states – Britain, France, Germany, the United States, Russia, and China – announced an agreement on the contents of a third sanctions resolution on Iran, building on resolutions 1696, 1737 and 1747. Resolutions 1737 and 1747 imposed sanctions on Tehran.
