ImageTehran, Iran, May 26 – At least 30 people were killed after a fire struck a chemical plant in central Iran on Sunday, state media reported.

Another 38 people were injured in the incident which occurred at 16:00 local time (11:30 GMT) at a pharmaceutical factory near the city of Arak in Markazi Province.

The official news agency IRNA said that that a 60,000-litre reservoir exploded as wielding work was taking place, resulting in a massive blaze which destroyed the entire plant and even cars parked outside the factory parameters.

At least 23 of the injured have suffered higher than 70 percent burns, the report said.
