ImageTehran, Iran, Mar. 30 – Iran's Oil Minister Gholam-Hossein Nozari will head out to Damascus later tonight to meet senior Syrian officials throughout the week.

Nozari will hold talks with his Syrian counterpart, Sufian al-Alao, during his week-long trip.

The official state news agency IRNA reported that the discussions will focus on joint cooperation in the fields of oil and gas, gas supply to Syria and establishing joint refineries with Venezuela and Malaysia.

Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki visited Damascus in July 2008, and Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad visited Tehran in August.

Mottaki had visited Syria on half a dozen other occasions over the past two years.

Regional allies Iran and Syria are both accused by the United States of being state sponsors of terrorism.
