ImageTehran, Iran, Aug. 09 – Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Saturday vowed to “slam the heads” of those nations which he perceives as having “interfered” in Iran’s post-election unrest “into the ceiling”.

Clarifying statements made by him earlier in the week, Ahmadinejad said, "After speaking at the meeting a number of media outlets reported that I was referring to my opponents, but I was in fact referring to the bulling and interfering powers".

The daily Etemad-e Melli last week said that during a meeting with the Association of Basiji Scholars in Mashhad, north-east Iran, Ahmadinejad had issued a warning to the opposition.

"Let the swearing-in ceremony occur", it quoted him as saying. "Then we will take them by the collar and slam their heads into the ceiling."

Iran has attempted to blame the West for widespread unrest following Iran’s presidential election in June. Protests have steadily continued and there is little sign of the protesters letting up.

Ahmadinejad was on Wednesday sworn in for his second term in office.
