ImageTehran, Iran, Aug. 19 – Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad arrived in Tehran on Wednesday to hold talks with Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, state media reported.

Al-Assad’s trip to Iran comes at a time when Iran’s leadership unveils its cabinet during a period of continued unrest.

The Syrian government was recently praised by French officials for the part played by them in obtaining the release on bail of a French University teaching assistant and an Iranian employee of the French Embassy in Tehran. Both were arrested on the grounds of involvement in the mass protests which have spread throughout Iran since the June Presidential elections.

The trial of approximately 110 Iranians arrested in the recent uprisings continues.
