Revolutionary Guards’ top brass hint at more suicide attacks

Iran Focus: The top brass of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards are speaking openly about the newly-formulated “doctrine of asymmetric warfare” and “all-out war”, as the situation in Iraq deteriorates. Iran Focus – Tehran, June 1 – The top brass of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards are speaking openly about the newly-formulated “doctrine of asymmetric warfare” and “all-out war”, as the situation in Iraq deteriorates. The terms refer to the use of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction in a possible military showdown with the United States.

Brig. Gen. Mohammad-Ali Jaafari, commander of the Revolutionary Guards Ground Forces, told a group of Guards officers on May 31: “In our new all-out defense doctrine, which is based on the concept of asymmetric warfare, military hardware is not so decisive. The important thing is how to confront the enemy and to have the physical and mental readiness and the faith to be able to do it.” Jaafari was referring to terrorism, and particularly suicide attacks, which the regime’s military strategists euphemistically call “asymmetric warfare”. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei himself once told the Revolutionary Guards that “Suicide attacks are the only effective and viable method against the domination of World Arrogance (the U.S. and its allies).”

Addressing the same group of Guards officers, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, commander in chief of the Revolutionary Guards, said the United States “will definitely face the violence and fury of Muslims and Shiites” and vowed that there would be “consequences” for what the Americans are doing in Iraq.

The state-owned newspaper Khorassan quoted the former Guards commander in chief, Mohsen Rezaii, in its May 29 issue. Rezaii told a meeting in the southern city of Yazd that the mullahs’ regime possessed “enough capacities and means” to defend itself in a military confrontation with the U.S. He said “what form these capacities have” is part of the regime’s “military secrets.”
