Society to expose HRW report link to Iran’s Intelligence Ministry

Iran Focus: Washington, May 23 – Colorado’s Iranian-American Society will tomorrow hold a press conference on the implications of a recent report issued by New York-based Human Rights Watch on the Iranian opposition group People’s Mujahedeen of Iran (MEK). The conference scheduled to take place at 11:00 a.m. in downtown Denver is expected to criticise HRW for the 28-page document which the Society says is “based on a series of lies from the Iranian Information Ministry agents”. Washington, May 23 – Colorado’s Iranian-American Society will tomorrow hold a press conference on the implications of a recent report issued by New York-based Human Rights Watch on the Iranian opposition group People’s Mujahedeen of Iran (MEK).

The conference scheduled to take place at 11:00 a.m. in downtown Denver is expected to criticise HRW for the 28-page document which the Society says is “based on a series of lies from the Iranian Information Ministry agents”.

A press release said that it was a “biased” report which “has severely damaged the reputation of the HRW to the Iranians and the people around the world. At the best, it is a “policy paper” that is recommending the various countries and political organizations not to support the democratic opposition to the tyrants in Iran”.

Human Rights Watch accused the MEK of torturing its “dissident members” who criticised or sought to leave the organisation.

Professor Reza Sami, an expert on Iranian affairs and human rights activist, planning to reveal “documented information obtained” from Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS a.k.a. VEVAK) regarding the relationship between those who have been given testimonies on the phone to HRW and the MOIS.

Captain Vivian Gembara who was an attorney in the United States Army JAG forces and a member of the 4th Infantry Division team that negotiated and drafted the agreement between the U.S. and the MEK would also at addressing the conference.
