Iran Focus: Tehran, Jun. 02 – Current presidential election candidate and former head of Iran’s State Security Forces, Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, admitted that there existed widespread corruption in high offices of government, in an interview with a hard-line news agency. Tehran, Jun. 02 – Current presidential election candidate and former head of Iran’s State Security Forces, Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, admitted that there existed widespread corruption in high offices of government, in an interview with a hard-line news agency.

Qalibaf told the state-run Fars agency, “There are those in government who are involved in goods smuggling”.

“We followed a few leads and discovered that they led to one or two senior officials in the country who put immense pressure on us” to not go public, he said.

“Currently we are investigating the record of an individual who has been imprisoned since the holy month of Ramadan until now and is linked to one of the country’s officials”, he added.
