Iran Focus: Tehran, Iran, Aug. 20 – The spokesman of Iran’s first post-revolutionary government requested on Saturday a review hearing after spending 26 years in prison.

Tehran, Iran, Aug. 20 – The spokesman of Iran’s first post-revolutionary government requested on Saturday a review hearing after spending 26 years in prison.

Abbas Amir-Entezam, who received a three-month extended prison leave for medical treatment, told a state-run news agency that he never had a chance to make his defence case in a public court since his original sentencing.

Amir-Entezam said, “The law gives me the right to request a parole hearing so that everyone knows on what charges I have spent time in prison for 26 years, however up to now my request for a parole hearing has fallen on deaf ears”.

“I am currently being treated for illnesses such as knee pain, diabetes, and asthma, and will see to my recovery for the next three months of my extended leave [from prison”>”, he added. Amir-Entezam has now been scheduled to return to prison on November 22.

He was the deputy Prime Minister and the spokesman in the government of Mehdi Bazargan which took over after the fall of the Shah and the victory of the Islamic Revolution in February 1979. The liberal-oriented government was swept from power by Iran’s hard-line clerics after the seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in November 1979.
