Iran paper says suicide attacks raising anti-war mood in U.S.

Tehran, Iran, Sep. 03 – A radical Islamist weekly close to Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad praised suicide operations against the United States and Israel as the correct strategy to carry forward the message of the Islamic Republic, as advocated by the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

“The reason for all the calamities of Muslims is the fact that the decree by Imam Khomeini about wiping out Israel from the Middle East has not been carried out”, the Persian-language weekly Parto-Sokhan wrote, calling the annihilation of the Jewish state “holy”.

The weekly wrote that the creation of “martyrdom-seeking forces” in Muslim countries terrified the U.S. and Israel and was the key to gaining the rights of Muslims.

Parto-Sokhan carried an application form on the same page to recruit suicide volunteers. Applicants were simply requested to “submit two photographs of themselves, a copy of their identity cards, and the filled-in application form” to the stated address so that their training could begin.

Suicide volunteers had a huge sway on public opinion in the West, the weekly wrote, contending that suicide operations were encouraging the American public to put pressure on President George W. Bush to pull out U.S. troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Parto-Sokhan is published in the Shiite holy city of Qom by the Imam Khomeini Educational and Research Institute. The institute’s chairman, ultra-conservative cleric Ayatollah Mohammad-Taghi Mesbah Yazdi, is regarded as the ideological mentor of Iran’s hard-line President Ahmadinejad.

Now that the U.S. had its hands full was the time to free all Muslims and paupers from the clutches of the “evil-doers”, the weekly wrote.

Since Iran Focus first broke the news that the weekly was running advertisements with an application form to enlist suicide volunteers, the hard-line weekly has come under strong scrutiny.
