Tehran, Iran, Sep. 27 – Iran’s Judiciary Chief called for a reduction of trade ties between the Islamic Republic and the European, following the adoption of an EU-drafted resolution by the United Nation’s nuclear watchdog threatening to send Iran to the Security Council, state-run dailies reported on Tuesday.

“Presently, we have 20 to 25 billion dollars worth of annual trade and banking deals with European countries. It seems, under these circumstances, we must reconsider our legitimate rights with the Europeans, and this consideration will include a reduction in trade deals”, Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi told a meeting of judicial officials.

“Europeans must bear in mind that depriving Iran of its legitimate rights will have a negative impact on mutual relations”, Shahroudi said.

The Judiciary Chief added that a recent step-up of pressure by Iran on the international community in regards to Tehran’s suspected nuclear weapons program, though effective, was long overdue.
