Tehran, Iran, Oct. 07 A powerful Iranian cleric told Tehrans Friday prayers worshippers the Islamic Republic was unwavering in its nuclear venture and unafraid of international sanctions.
We mustnt be afraid of sanctions. Even though there is a loss, it also has benefits. We should not fear the losses, Guardian Council chief Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said.
If we have made any headway these days, it is because of these sanctions against us. Otherwise, we would be like these Arab countries, who have to import everything, Jannati said.
If we fear sanctions then we will have to accept submission, Jannati said.
The powerful cleric, who is a trusted confidant of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, accused the European trio of Britain, France and Germany of having cheated Iran during the nuclear talks. He said what the U.S. and European were saying on Irans nuclear program doesnt make sense in any logic.
The IAEA board of governors has adopted a resolution that would refer Irans nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions.
