Tehran, Iran, Oct. 17 – Prisoners set fire to a jail during a riot in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz in the early hours of Sunday morning, Iran Focus has learnt.

Parts of Adel-Abad Prison were set on fire around 4am.

Several prison guards were taken hostage during the riot. A number of prisoners managed to escape, though several were shot and killed by State Security Forces outside the prison.

Adel-Abad Street and a number of nearby roads have all been sealed off.
