Tehran, Iran, Nov. 04 – Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) Speaker praised the November 4, 1979 takeover of the United States embassy in Tehran by radical Islamists as the beginning of the end of the “false strength of America”.

Speaking at a ceremony in Tehran commemorating the embassy seizure, Gholam-Hossein Haddad-Adel said that the actions against the “spies’ den” marked a turning-point in the world perception that the U.S. was invincible, and has continued to influence other nations of the world to this day.

“On November 4, our brave students entered and captured the American spies’ den, neutralising the plots of the enemy which had begun prior to it. After that, the enemy became passive in its activities in our country”, Haddad-Adel said.

Addressing hard-line Islamists at the ceremony, the Majlis Speaker said that the Iranian nation must continue to stand against the World Arrogance, or United States, as it did when it seized the American embassy.

During the 1979 embassy takeover, 52 Americans were held hostage for 444 days.
