Tehran, Iran, Nov. 11 – Iranian Friday prayers leaders across the country blasted French action against Muslims, as Paris moved in to arrest individuals suspected of being behind several thousand arson attacks on cars and homes, more than two weeks after the protests began.

In Tehran, senior cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, the chief of Iran’s powerful Guardians Council, hold worshippers that the West had become completely discredited following the unrests in France.

“If we send four spying mercenary Baha’is to their graves, [the West”> cries out that minorities rights are being violated, there is discrimination, and human rights have been violated, but for 30 years they haven’t seen to the cries of their own impoverished people and minorities”, Jannati lashed out.

In Ramsar, northern Iran, the Friday prayers leader Hojjatoleslam Rahman Bagherzadeh described the fortnight-long unrest in France as a “shameful stain on Europe”.

“Europe always condemned Iran and other countries for human rights abuses, but today we witness waves of injustice and human rights abuses in Europe. These protests by the people show the opening of a dirty tumour of injustice in this region”, he added.

Elsewhere, in the central city of Isfahan, Ayatollah Seyyed-Youssef Tabatabai-Nejad told worshippers that the United States would suffer an even larger spate of destruction than France faced.

“Definitely, America will suffer even worse than what happened in France. Muslims await and will witness this day”, Tabatabai-Nejad, the representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Isfahan, said.

“The demonstrations in France were unprecedented and burn like a fire beneath the ember. The wrath of the peoples and the nations of the earth will burn the World Arrogance and oppressors”, he added, referring to the U.S.

The reason for the similarity between the various sermons is that Friday prayers leaders across Iran receive set guidelines every week from the Secretariat of Friday Prayers Ceremonies in Tehran, which is affiliated to the office of Supreme Leader. The guidelines brief the clerics as to what they must say in their political speeches during the weekly prayers.
