Tehran, Iran, Dec. 04 – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed on Sunday a new counter-intelligence chief for the Islamic Republic’s armed forces.

In a statement carried by Iran’s state-run news agency, Khamenei decreed that Brigadier General Farhang Me’mar Nahavandi was appointed head of the Counter-Intelligence Directorate of the armed forces effective immediately.

Nahavandi replaces Brigadier General Akbar Diyanatfar for the influential post.
