Tehran, Iran, Dec. 30 The results of Iraqs recent parliamentary elections were the sweet fruits of three years of revolutionary diplomacy in Iraq by the Islamic Republic, a top Iranian official told a website run by officials in Irans Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).
Mohsen Rezai, who for 12 years headed the elite military force and currently sits as secretary general of the State Expediency Council (SEC), told the website Baztab that more than two thirds of seats in Iraqs future parliament were won by pro-Iran groups.
The successful holding of Iraqs National Assembly elections and the gaining of more than two thirds of the seats of this countrys National Assembly by Islamist Shiites and Kurds that are close friends with the Iranian nation is the sweet fruit of three years of revolutionary diplomacy in Iraq, Rezai said.
A close ally of former Iranian President Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Rezai, said, Unlike the experience of our diplomacy in Afghanistan, which because of our passivism against the United States was unable to bear considerable fruit for the Islamic Republic, in the case of Iraq the Islamic Republic has been very effective.
