Baghdad, Jan. 15 – Iraqi police have detained a drug ring in the southern city of Basra with large quantities of illegal drugs which had been brought from neighbouring Iran, a Baghdad daily reported on Saturday.

Police had arrested the individuals, among who were several Iranians, in Basra’s forth district, according to the daily al-Ettehad.

Some 25 kilograms of hasheesh and a quantity of dangerous pills that had been brought in from Iran were confiscated by police.

The report said that the pills were being sold by women to young children in the city.
