Tehran, Iran, Feb. 24 – A senior Iranian cleric accused United States and Israeli intelligence agencies of being behind Wednesday’s attack on a Shiite shrine in the holy city of Samarra.

Ayatollah Mohammad Emami-Kashani told worshippers in Tehran during his Friday prayers sermon, “Israel, and the two sinister organisations Mossad and the CIA, are behind the disaster in Samarra”.

“The shrine in Samarra will be rebuilt, but what will remain is a black stain on the Western Arrogance (U.S.), Mossad, the CIA, and the Zionists”, Emami-Kashani said.

Iraqi authorities announced a daytime curfew on Friday in an attempt to reduce outbreaks of sectarian violence. Following the blast in Samarra, more than 150 Sunni mosques have come under attack and at least 130 people have been killed.
