Tehran, Iran, Mar. 04 – Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his entire cabinet and heads of government institutions are on average getting only four hours of sleep a night, a top aide to the hard-line president told deputies in the country’s Majlis (parliament).

“Ahmadinejad and his cabinet ministers, along with the directors and deputy directors of state institutions, do not get more than four hours of sleep every night”, Farhad Rahbar told an open session of parliament on Friday, according to government-run news agencies. Rahbar, who has the rank of a cabinet minister, heads the Planning and Management Organisation.

Rahbar’s comments were part of a speech aimed at convincing Majlis deputies to approve Ahmadinejad’s budget proposals. The budget bill has been criticised by many economists who say its sharp rise in government spending, financed by the country’s burgeoning oil revenues, will fuel inflation and lead to more poverty.
