Tehran, Iran, Mar. 27 – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Sunday that the hard-line government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would take Iran to the point where the enemies of the Islamic Republic would be “disappointed” in confronting it, adding that Tehran would continue to pursue its nuclear activities despite Western opposition, state television reported.

“It is possible that [the West’s”> threats are carried out in certain instances, but at such times the Iranian nation will defend its greatness, dignity, identity, and interests and will stand firm without retreating”, Khamenei told members of the hard-line paramilitary Bassij.

“We will take Islamic Iran to the point where the enemies will be disappointed in confronting it”, he said.

Khamenei described the United States and “Zionists” as Iran’s archenemies and accused Britain of stirring trouble in Iran.

He rejected statements by the West that the international community was opposed to Tehran’s nuclear activities, adding that world opinion “favours” Iran.

“Over the past 27 years, the enemy has confronted the Iranian nation with many excuses and has been after dominating this country once again. Today, it is after achieving the same goal through psychological warfare, creating rumours, and lying about the nuclear issue. However, the aware and awakened Iranian nation and its steadfast and wise officials will continue with firm strides to meet the nation’s interest and realise its rights”, he said.
