Tehran, Iran, Apr. 13 – Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reaffirmed on Thursday that Iran would never back down from carrying out uranium enrichment even as the United Nations nuclear chief Mohamed ElBaradei had arrived in Tehran to urge officials to do just that.

“At this time, Iran will enter international equations from the position of a nuclear country”, Ahmadinejad said at a rally in the eastern town of Kashmar. His remarks were carried by the official news agency.

“The Iranian nation is one which cannot be defeated and will never retreat. Defeat and retreat have no place in this nation”, he added.

“Today is a day when we have to tighten our belts and clench our fists and prepare ourselves for a big and great jihad”, the hard-line president said.

On Tuesday, Ahmadinejad declared that Iran had joined the Nuclear Club.

“I officially announce that Iran has joined the world’s nuclear countries”, Ahmadinejad said in a speech that was broadcast on state television.

The UN Security Council adopted a “Presidential Statement” unanimously on March 29 giving Iran 30 days to suspend all of its uranium enrichment activities and resume its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
