Tehran, Iran, Apr. 17 – The Islamic Republic will push ahead with its nuclear enrichment activities despite a call by the United Nations Security Council for it to suspend the work, Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator said in Tehran. His remarks were reported by the official news agency on Monday.

Asked whether Iran would consider suspending such activities, Ali Larijani said, “One should not search for these comments since any suggestion must have a logical and correct angle. Why should we stop [nuclear”> research?”

Larijani said that Iran would “patiently” continue its nuclear activities, adding that Tehran would never yield to “stubborn and obstinate” efforts by the West to have Iran suspend its nuclear activities.

The United Nations Security Council adopted a “Presidential Statement” unanimously on March 29 giving Iran 30 days to suspend all of its uranium enrichment activities and resume its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
