Tehran, Iran, Jul. 13 – Radical Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned the European Union on Thursday that it would stand to suffer if it increased pressure on Iran to abandon its nuclear program.

Europe has offered Tehran a package of economic and nuclear incentives in return for it to abandon uranium enrichment.

“We have moved in the path of our rights and the law but unfortunately, they [the West”> want to use this proposal as a pretext to increase pressure on us. We advise them to be patient” Ahmadinejad told a crowd in the north-western town of Miyaneh. His comments were reported by the state-run news agency ISNA.

“If you create a conflict, it will be you who will suffer the consequences”, he said in comments directed at the West.

“Until now, we have moved in the framework of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and agreements, but they must know that if the Iranian nation reaches the conclusion that they are not sincere in their actions and proposals it will reconsider its policies”, Ahmadinejad said.

“The Europeans will be the ones that suffer from any problem that arises. We do not seek a conflict but they must know that they cannot hurt the Iranian nation”, he added.

The five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council – Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States – as well as Germany agreed on Wednesday to send Tehran’s nuclear file to the council, where it could face sanctions for refusing to suspend uranium enrichment.
