London, Aug. 18 – Iran will send a senior delegation to Russia next week to hold talks with Russian officials on nuclear cooperation by the two states, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported on Friday.

The delegation, which will include deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran, Mahmoud Jannatian, will arrive on August 22 and stay until August 26, the report quoted Russia’s nuclear power equipment and service export monopoly as saying.

“The program includes a visit to Unit 3 of the Kalinin nuclear power plant”, an Atomstroiexport spokesman said. The plant is based in the Tver Region in central Russia.

The company is building Unit 1 of the Bushehr nuclear power plant under a contract worth about $1 billion.

The unit was to be launched by the end of this year. But in July it was announced that Atomstroiexport and Iran had agreed a new schedule under which the nuclear plant will be put into operation in the second half of 2007.
