Tehran, Iran, Sep. 05 – Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called on Tuesday for a purge of liberal and secular university professors.

“Our educational curriculum has for the past 150 years been influenced by a secular society. The colonialists are after the expansion of a secular regime which they prefer”, Ahmadinejad said. His remarks were carried by the official news agency IRNA.

He said that changing the country’s curriculum would be painstaking and complicated. “Already, work has begun to change the system”, he said.

“Today, students must shout at the president and ask why are liberal and secular university lecturers present in universities”, Ahmadinejad said.

In June, Ahmadinejad’s hard-line government fired forty professors and lecturers from Tehran University.
