Tehran, Iran, Oct. 20 Irans hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad bluntly rejected a demand by the United Nations Security Council for Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activities and instead offered to sell the West uranium at a discounted price.
Why should they produce nuclear fuel and sell it to us. I told them, You suspend [uranium enrichment”> and will produce, and in five years time we will sell it to you with fifty-percent discount, Ahmadinejad said at a gathering in Tehran before the beginning of Friday prayers. His speech was carried live on state television.
The Iranian nation is for dialogue and peace and opposes injustice; however, it will not succumb to pressure an iota, he declared.
Ahmadinejad called into question the validity of the Security Council. The decisions of this council are void of legitimacy, he said.
The Security Council adopted Resolution 1696 on July 31 demanding that Tehran suspend all its uranium enrichment activities by August 31 or face the threat of sanctions. Tehran missed that deadline.
It is currently deliberating a tougher resolution which would impose mild sanctions against Tehran.
The hard-line president once again called into question the existence of the Holocaust and said that Tehran was prepared organise an international group of experts to carry out research on the matter on the condition that the West accepted the groups findings.
