Tehran, Iran, Nov. 09 – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blasted on Thursday the 26-member North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) as an establishment designed to control the resources of other countries.

“The international clique of bullying powers established a military organisation called NATO in order to dominate the interests of nations”, Khamenei said during the second day of his visit to the northern city of Semnan.

“Today, in order to destroy the national identity of the countries of the world and further their goals [the West”> is attempting to establish a cultural NATO. In this way, they want to use the far-reaching capability of the media in order to control countries’ primary source of political, economic, social and cultural development resource”, he said.

Khamenei said that Iranian officials had to closely monitor the issue in order to prevent Iranian society from being affected by the “cultural NATO”.

NATO’s fundamental role, since its establishment in 1949, has been to safeguard the freedom and security of its member countries by “political and military means”.

On Wednesday, Khamenei vowed that Tehran would push ahead with its controversial nuclear activities despite an international effort to prevent it from doing so.
