London, Dec. 12 – The foreign ministers of the European Union discussed the international standoff over Iran’s nuclear program, during a meeting in Brussels on Monday.

“Over lunch, ministers discussed the state of play regarding work on a draft UN Security Council resolution on the Iranian nuclear issue”, the 25-nation block said in a statement.

“Security Council resolution 1696 of 31 July 2006 made suspension of enrichment-related activities a mandatory measure and expressed the intention to adopt appropriate measures under Article 41 of Chapter VII of the UN Charter in the event of Iranian non-compliance with Security Council requests”, the EU statement added.

The foreign ministers are planning to hold further discussions over Iran’s nuclear non-compliance in Brussels on Thursday during the EU leaders’ summit.
