ImageWorld powers are due to meet on Wednesday to discuss efforts to resolve a standoff with Iran over its nuclear program.

Officials from Germany and the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia, will gather in the Chinese city of Shanghai. They are expected to discuss an incentives package offered to Iran in 2006.

The package includes economic and other incentives to persuade Iran to stop enriching uranium, a process than can produce fuel for nuclear reactors or material for nuclear weapons.

The Security Council has imposed three sets of sanctions on Iran for its refusal to stop enrichment activities.

Last week, Iran's president said the country will install 6,000 more uranium-enriching centrifuges at its Natanz nuclear facility.

The United States and its Western allies accuse Tehran of seeking to build a nuclear weapon. Iran says its atomic program is only for generating electricity.
