US eyes Russia plan to get Iran back to nuke talks

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says the Obama administration will study a Russian idea to bring Iran back into talks over its suspect nuclear program.

Clinton told reporters on Wednesday that she would send a team of experts to consult with the Russians about their plan, which was briefly outlined by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The proposal calls for the international community to make limited concessions to Iran for each step it takes in meeting demands to come clean about its nuclear intentions.

Iran has remained defiant in the face of the demands, as well as heavy sanctions, and refuses to prove that its nuclear program is peaceful and not aimed at producing an atomic weapon. Talks on the matter broke down earlier this year.
