Paris, Jul. 27 – France cautioned Iran on Wednesday that there would be “negative” consequences if Tehran went ahead with its threat to resume its controversial nuclear activities that had been suspended for the past several months.

French Foreign Ministry deputy spokeswoman, Cecile Pozzo di Borgo, said, “Iran knows the consequences if it begins activities that have been suspended till now, which can only be negative for Iran”.

Pozzo di Borgo said that the latest European proposals “will allow a more open perspective for new relations between Iran and Europe”.

She said the European Union was determined to meet its commitment in delivering the Islamic Republic political, security, economic, technological and nuclear incentives in return for Iran to abandon its suspected nuclear weapons program.

Separately, the German weekly der Spiegel wrote in its online edition on Wednesday that French President Jacques Chirac was “little by little losing his patience” with Tehran over its refusal to back down on uranium enrichment.

Last week, Chirac warned Tehran that its nuclear file would be referred to the United Nations Security Council if an agreement could not be reached.

Iranian President Mohammad Khatami declared on Wednesday that Tehran would lift its suspension on some nuclear activities regardless of whatever proposals the EU were to make.
