TEHRAN, Nov 12 (AFP) – The head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation said Saturday that the production of nuclear fuel would be on Iranian soil, effectively rejecting proposals for the sensitive work to be carried out abroad.
“Iranian nuclear fuel will be produced in Iran itself,” Gholamreza Aghazadeh said.
“What is important is that the enrichment (of uranium) takes place in Iran,” he said.
His comments followed a meeting with Igor Ivanov, the head of Russia’s Security Council, who was in Tehran with what was thought to be a proposal under which Russia might conduct some nuclear fuel work on Iran’s behalf in a bid to end a long-running standoff with the international community.
