the shooting in cold blood of a 20-year-old man by a senior official of Iran’s paramilitary police, the State Security Forces, at an
underground railway station in the city of Karaj, west of Tehran.
The murder, witnessed by hundreds of rush-hour commuters,
sparked clashes between angry protesters and security forces in several neighbourhoods of Karaj.

President Bush says reasonable to let Iran apply for W-T-O membership

AP: President Bush says it was a “reasonable decision” to let Iran apply for membership in the World Trade Organization.
At a White House news conference, Bush told reporters that letting Tehran apply for membership in the trade group could help European diplomatic efforts to put a lid on Iran’s nuclear program.

Bloomberg: The U.S. and its allies in a program to stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction prevented Iran from obtaining material for its nuclear weapons program within the past nine months, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said. “The trans-shipment of material and equipment bound for ballistic missile programs in countries of concern, including Iran” was blocked as was the transfer of “equipment used to produce propellant” to a “ballistic missile program in another region” of
the world, Rice said.

Reuters: Iran said on Tuesday it had upgraded its Shahab-3 missile, already capable of hitting Israel, with solid fuel which could increase its range and accuracy. Amid criticism from Washington over its nuclear programme, Tehran said last year it had begun a production line of Shahab-3 medium-range missiles, thought by military experts to have a range of 2,000 km (1,250 miles).
