Tehran, Dec. 07 – From the Grapevine…

A day before Students Day (7 December), hundreds of students staged a protest at International University in Qazvin (140km west of Tehran), chanting “Death to the Dictator,” “We will die, but will not accept humiliation.” Eyewitnesses told Iran Focus that six students had been arrested by the security forces who had a heavy presence in and around the university.

Protests were also held elsewhere, including in Tehran’s Azad University, the southern campus, Sharif University of Technology in the capital, and Bu-Ali (Avicenna) University in Hamedan (western Iran).

Authorities had deployed large contingents of the State Security Forces as well as the para-military Bassij units around all campus in Tehran and other major Iranian cities to thwart the outbreak of protests similar to last year.

The fences around Tehran University were covered by green cloth to prevent bystanders from watching events inside the University premises.
