Rome, Sep. 22 – Italian customs officials announced they had seized nearly seven tonnes of explosives smuggled from Iran.
Authorities on Tuesday said the powerful explosive RDX was discovered in bags of powdered milk in a container in the southern port town of Gioia Tauro in the Calabria region.
Authorities said the RDX substance was destined for Syria.
Italian media said several anti-mafia judges had previously been assassinated in Italy using the explosive, though authorities did not believe the newly impounded batch from Iran was meant for the mafia.
