London, Aug. 27 – U.S.-led troops arrested eight operatives tied to Iran during a pre-dawn raid in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Monday, the Coalition said.

“The individuals detained during the raid are believed to be members of the Special Groups terrorist network known for facilitating the transport of weapons and explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq into Iran for terrorist training”, the Multi-National Force – Iraq (MNF-I) said in a statement.

The right were picked up in a precision raid in the Baghdad slum Sadr City. Coalition forces confiscated a number of documents, photographs and possible improvised explosive device components during the raid, the statement said.

“Intelligence reports indicate that the targeted individual is a Special Groups senior level facilitator with possible Iranian connections”, it added.
