Tehran, Iran, Sep. 11 – Iran rejected on Tuesday a proposal by United Nations nuclear watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei calling on it to halt uranium enrichment activities in return for a suspension of Security Council sanctions.

“We do not accept the ‘time-out’ suggested by the director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mohamed ElBaradei”, said Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki. His remarks were reported by the official news agency IRNA.

Mottaki said that every one of Iran’s population of 70 million was the “equivalent of an atomic bomb”.

“Iran’s nuclear program is not a showcase. We want to create [nuclear”> fuel for peaceful purposes”, he said.

Mottaki will travel to Moscow in the coming hours.
