Tehran, Iran, Oct. 31 – Authorities hanged a man in public in the city of Arak, central Iran, on Wednesday, state media reported.

The man, Ahmad D., was accused of “hooliganism”, according to a report by the official news agency IRNA.

Several dozen Iranians have been executed in October as part of a nationwide crackdown which many analysts believe is aimed at silencing dissent against the ruling theocracy.

On Sunday, state television reported that two men, identified as Ali Khorramnejad and Behrouz Zanganeh, were executed in the port city of Bushehr, southern-western Iran.

IRNA said on Saturday that three individuals were executed in Yazd, central Iran.

Iranian officials often refer to millions of unemployed young men, who are largely beset by frustration and despair, as “trouble-makers” or “hooligans”.
