Tehran, Jun. 06 – From the Grapevine…

Iran’s Telecommunications Ministry is unable to pay for cheques it has issued to its creditors that are more than $30,000. Smaller companies which have received cheques between $30,000 to $60,000 cannot cash them because the ministry does have enough funds in its accounts. A tile factory manager received several cheques worth $17,000 from the ministry, none of which has been cashed due to a lack of funds.

In Tehran’s Sa’adat-Abad district, activists write political graffiti on the walls on a daily basis, urging the public to join anti-government protests which the opposition has called for beginning next week. The Tehran municipality paints over them at nights, but by daybreak more graffiti appears.

In northern Tehran, public telephone booths were repainted to remove the anti-regime graffiti on them. A resident in the area had written “Ali Khamenei” (Iran’s Supreme Leader) on the pavement so that people walking by would stomp on it.

Qazvin – On Khomeini’s death anniversary in Qazvin, west of Tehran, on Friday, a group of people in the city’s Alamout district were seen dancing to live music. Some participants said it was a day for jubilation.
