London, 24 May – President Edgar Lungu of Zambia has serious worries about Iran’s efforts to increase sectarian ideology in Africa.

In an exclusive interview with Okaz/Saudi Gazette on Monday, Lungu said: “These attempts are a source of serious concern for the African leaders”.

He warned: “We should stay away from sectarianism. We all believe in the same God. We should all be tolerant. Our message is peace. We should stay away from anything that might disturb peace or create turmoil”.

Lungu was in Saudi Arabia on an official visit during which he held meetings with Saudi King Salman and senior Saudi officials last week.

He called for a halt to Iran’s secret plots in the region and asked Muslims to settle their differences so as not to destroy each other.

Lungu also criticised Russia for offering protection to Syrian dictator Bashar Al-Assad.

He said: “There is no reason for Russia to destroy Syria under the pretext of protecting the regime”.

He called for an immediate end to the slaughter of innocent people, especially women and children, in Syria.

He said all African leaders are hoping for an instantaneous end to hostilities and destruction in the country.
