Tehran, Iran. Jan. 04 – Iran’s Foreign Ministry declared in a Majlis (Parliament) session attended jointly by cabinet ministers and Majlis deputies that the Islamic Republic’s new tough position on the nuclear issue has put the West on defensive, Iran’s state-run news agency reported on Wednesday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not make its peaceful nuclear activities conditional on others’ permission”, Manouchehr Mottaki told the joint session Tuesday evening.

Mottaki vowed that Tehran would continue to stand by the notion that it had a “definite right” to carry out its nuclear work.

Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the same meeting that Tehran had formally informed the International Atomic Energy Agency of its decision to resume nuclear research and development at its massive uranium enrichment site in Natanz.
