London, Jan. 13 – Russia hinted that Iran would face United Nations Security Council referral because of its decision to begin nuclear activities at its uranium enrichment facility in Natanz against the wishes of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Russian news agencies reported that Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov had said that Tehran could be referred to the Security Council, given the current situation around its nuclear program.

“In the current situation, I cannot rule out this scenario”, Sergei Ivanov said, according to the RIA Novosti news agency. “It is a possibility, unless Iran reconsiders its decision to resume uranium enrichment operations”.

Ivanov said that the Islamic Republic’s uranium enrichment program was causing “justifiable concern” for the international community.
