London, Jul. 05 – The following is the text of a statement released by the office of European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana after Iran announced that it would not turn up on Wednesday for talks over its nuclear activities:

Javier Solana, EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), and Dr Ali LARIJANI, Secretary General of the Iranian National Security Council, will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 6 of July in Brussels. After a phone conversation with him today, Mr Solana said:

“I was surprised to hear that Dr Ali LARIJANI, Secretary General of the Iranian National Security Council, has decided at the last minute to postpone his trip to Brussels, as previously agreed with him to take place today. I had made clear to the Iranians and to Dr Larijani that we want to proceed rapidly to examine together the ideas I put to him early last month.

I have just spoken to Dr Larijani on the phone and we agreed that we will meet tomorrow in Brussels and that we will continue our discussions on Tuesday, 11 of July”.
