On Monday, August 24, groups of workers, retirees, drivers, car customers, and people demanding access to water staged protests and strikes in several Iranian cities over unpaid claims, livelihood problems, economic uncertainty, and their demands being left unanswered.
Tehran: Large gathering by telecommunications retirees outside the ministry
A group of telecommunications retirees in Tehran held a protest rally and march outside the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
The retirees protested what they called the “denial of their rights” by major shareholders of the Telecommunications Company, including the “Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order” and the “IRGC Cooperative Foundation.” The failure to implement wage adjustments and the 2019 employment and welfare regulations were among their other main grievances.
The protesters also chanted slogans against the minister of communications, accusing him of supporting the major shareholders of the Telecommunications Company.
Among the retirees’ slogans was: “Retiree, shout out, cry out for your rights.”
Iranshahr: Medical sciences drivers go six months without pay
At least 20 drivers of leased vehicles working for the Iranshahr Health Network and University of Medical Sciences said they have gone about six months without receiving their wages. According to the drivers, their most recent unpaid wages date back to last year.
The drivers say that despite working continuously around the clock for wages of about 200 million rials per month (approximately $100), they have been waiting for months to receive their pay, and that this situation has created serious difficulties in covering their living expenses and supporting their families.
One of the drivers said: “We have been leased drivers for the Iranshahr Health Center of Medical Sciences for six months and have received no wages.”
Isfahan: Steel and ironworks retirees protest
Retirees from the steel and ironworks industries in Isfahan also held a protest rally and march, demanding that their grievances be addressed.
The gathering was held outside the General Directorate of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare of Isfahan Province. The failure to implement wage adjustments, the nonpayment of 30% of their 2026 claims, and inadequate health insurance coverage were among the retirees’ main grievances.
The protesters also criticized the regime’s policies, chanting: “Enough warmongering, our tables are empty.”
Hormozgan: Telecommunications retirees continue protests
Telecommunications retirees in Hormozgan also gathered in protest against their pay and welfare conditions, continuing the nationwide protests by this group.
Their demands included implementation of wage adjustments, implementation of the 2010 employment and welfare regulations, and opposition to the role of the Telecommunications Company’s major shareholders in the current situation.
Fars and Shiraz: Telecommunications retirees protest unpaid claims
Telecommunications retirees in Fars Province and the city of Shiraz also held a protest gathering.
The protesters once again demanded implementation of wage adjustments and the 2010 employment and welfare regulations, and targeted the “Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order” and the “IRGC Cooperative Foundation,” as major shareholders of the Telecommunications Company.
Kermanshah: Telecommunications retirees gather outside provincial telecommunications building
In Kermanshah, telecommunications retirees also gathered outside the provincial telecommunications building.
Like the other gatherings by telecommunications retirees, their protest focused on implementing wage adjustments, enforcing the 2010 employment and welfare regulations, and objecting to the performance of the company’s major shareholders.
Ahvaz: Suppliers gather again outside the University of Medical Sciences
On Monday, merchants and suppliers in Ahvaz once again gathered outside Ahvaz Jondishapur University of Medical Sciences.
They say they have been owed money since 2022 for supplying consumable materials for facilities, printing, and computer equipment to the university, but despite the passage of several years, their claims remain unpaid.
Arak: Kerman Motor customers protest
In Arak, a group of customers and people who say they have lost money involving Kerman Motor gathered outside the Mohammadi dealership.
The protesters say they paid the amounts required to purchase their vehicles about a year ago, but a year later they have still not received their cars or any invitation letters for delivery.
Customers of “Pasokh Khodro” protest delays in vehicle delivery
At the same time, a group of customers protesting delays in vehicle delivery and the failure to send invitation letters gathered outside “Pasokh Khodro.”
The protesters say that despite making the required payments and fulfilling their obligations, their vehicles were not delivered on schedule, and no manager or official appeared among them to answer questions about the status of their registered vehicles and the delivery date.
