The Montazeri Tape: The untold story of the 1988 massacre in Iran

London, 17 Aug – An audio tape was released last week which revealed the Iranian Regime’s involvement in the 1988 massacre which killed over 30,000 political prisoners.

The recording was of a meeting between Hossein-Ali Montazeri, former heir to Supreme leader Khomeini, and other top officials in the regime.

The vast majority of victims were members of the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK) who refused to abandon their political beliefs.

Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, described this recording as a historical document which proves the responsibility of the regime’s leaders in the worst prison massacre since WW2.

She points out that this recording attests to the strength of the PMOI members in the face of danger.

For more information, watch this report about the Montazeri tape on the National Council of Resistance of Iran’s website.
