Iran Judiciary admits arrest of Amir Hossein Moradi and Ali Younesi, Sharif University of Technology elite students

By Jubin Katiraie

The Iranian Judiciary has finally admitted – 26 days after the fact – to arresting two elite students from the Sharif University of Technology on April 10.

On that day, Amir Hossein Moradi, who won the National Astronomy Olympiad silver medal in 2017, disappeared completely, while Ali Younesi, who won the gold medal at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in 2018, was arrested and returned home that evening with injuries and torture marks.

A few hours later, Younesi was arrested again, this time with his parents, and interrogated for hours under pressure.

The students at Sharif University have been holding protests, demanding to know the fate of their friends.

Judiciary Spokesman Gholam-Hossein Esmaili said yesterday that Moradi and Younesi were arrested for their support of the Iranian Resistance, before listing a few trumped-up national security charges that are often levied against political prisoners, i.e. “diversionary actions” and was “attempting to carry out sabotage operations”.

He even claimed that the state security agents had found “explosive devices used in sabotage operations” during the search of the students’ homes, but this is highly unlikely to be true.

The truth is that the Iranian government has responded terribly to the Coronavirus pandemic, so rather than deal with the actual health and economic crises facing Iran, mullahs have increased their crackdown on anyone that opposes them.

The Mojahedin-e Khalq (PMOI/MEK) has released the names, locations, and images of 18 others who were arrested, in the hopes that someone will know what has happened to them. The names are:

  1. Mohammad Reza Ashrafi Samani, Isfahan city
  2. Bijan KazemiKuhdasht city
  3. Nahid Fat’halian, Tehran city
  4. Kamran Rezaeifar, Tehran city
  5. Sepehr Imam Jomeh, Tehran city
  6. Parastoo Mo’ini, Tehran city
  7. Zahra Safaei, Tehran city
  8. Forough Taghipour, Tehran city
  9. Marzieh Farsi, Tehran city
  10. Massoud Rad, Tehran city
  11. Mohammad Mehri, Qom city
  12. Saeed Rad, Semnan city
  13. Somayeh Bidi, Karaj city
  14. Mohammad Hassani, Karaj city
  15. Rasool Hassanvand, Khorramabad city
  16. Gholam Ali Alipour, Amol city
  17. Mehran GharabaghiBehbahan city
  18. Majid KhademiBehbahan city

Maryam Rajavi, the President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), explained that all of these detainees will be tortured, face execution, and may also become infected with the Coronavirus.

She tweeted: “I urge the UN SecretaryGeneral, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Human Rights Council and other international organizations to take urgent action to secure their release and send an international delegation to visit Iran’s prisons and the prisoners.”

The regime should immediately publish the names of all detainees and respect all their rights under international conventions to which Iran is a party.
