Tehran, Jan. 04 – A demonstration was held today by over 500 nurses in Shiraz (capital of the southern Fars province in Iran).
The majority of nurses from both public and private hospitals in Shiraz took part in the demonstration which was held from day-brake in Faculty of Medicine in the University of Shiraz.
One of the demonstrators, Kazem Mohammadi, complained, Nurses from private hospitals get between 7,000 to 8,000 rials ($1.00) for each hour they work whereas we get 4,000 rials for the same period of work.
Mohammadi said that nurses working hours were far too long, In a ward where six nurses should be working, only three nurses are available, which puts added pressure on the nurses.
We have no job guarantees for the future. That is why we have lost all motivation, said Abbas Farahani, a student studying to become a nurse.
At the end of the demonstration nurses voiced their views against the present government stance. They also signed a petition demanding that the government address their concerns.
