Tehran, Jan. 04 – A homeless man was eaten alive by wild wolves in the village of Vali-Asr, near the town of Torbat Heydariya (northeast Iran), Sunday evening.

Witnesses at the scene said that they phoned emergency services for help and attempted to fight off the wolves until police arrived but failed as the police did not show up.

Those present described the victim as an elderly man who was sleeping in boxes in the village’s main street. “He was torn to pieces”, according to one witness.

Repeated requests by state-run media to get a response from the department of Social Development as to why homeless people were not cared fell on deaf ears.

Dr. Gholam-Reza Abdollahi, the local coroner, said, “The Social Development Ministry does not accept the responsibility to round-up box-sleepers”.

The wolves had entered the village seeking refuge from strong rain and snow.
